Special pieces & draws

Most pieces come from the normal shop, but a few have their own rules.

Legendary rotation

There are 98 pieces in the normal shop, including 19 legendary (5-cost) pieces. Each game, only 10 of them are in the pool; the others are removed at random. Five are revealed at the start and the rest are revealed when someone first recruits them. The full list:

Pandaren fishing

With at least one Pandaren on the board, you get a roll at the start of every round to catch a free piece:

  • 1 Pandaren: a chance to catch a random piece that shares a race with one of your board pieces. The first roll is about 7%, and the chance grows each round you miss, resetting when you catch something.
  • 2 Pandaren: in addition, every Pandaren on the board has a 15% chance to bring a copy of itself.
  • A Lucky Pendant on any of your pieces increases these chances.
  • Fishing is the only way to get the Pandaren spirits: Ember Spirit, Storm Spirit, Earth Spirit and Void Spirit. It can also catch the spare Undead pieces.

Spare Undead pieces

Fifteen Undead pieces, three at each cost, are never in the shop. You mainly get them with the Ascetic's Cap: after a battle, a non-Undead piece holding it may be reborn as a random Undead of the same cost and star (90% for 1-cost pieces, down to 50% for 5-costs). Pandaren fishing can catch them too, and the Golden Heart can offer Wraith King, Spectres and Necrophos.

SSR pieces

SSR pieces are super-rare variants of four pieces, each with a stronger, unique skill. From courier level 7, every shop slot has a 1 in 100 million chance to offer one of them, so most players will never see one.

  • An SSR piece costs 9 gold and arrives finished: it can't be combined or upgraded, and it counts as a ★★★, level-9 piece (so it deals the most damage to a losing player and sells for 9).
  • For synergies it counts as a different piece from the normal version. An SSR Chaos Knight next to a normal Chaos Knight counts as 2 Knights, and also as 2 different Demons, which switches the Demon bonus off.
  • Ogre Twin Head Mage Dragon is the SSR Ogre Magi and has an extra race: Dragon.
  • SSR pieces never go back into the shared pool, and they can't come from special draws such as the Golden Heart or Wheel of Wonder.

Io and Ringmaster

  • Io has a 0.2% chance to appear in any shop slot and isn't taken from the shared pool. It can stand in for a copy when combining (see Stars & combining).
  • Ringmaster has no fixed class. At the start of each game it is given 3 random classes for that game.

Heart of the Machine

  • With 3 Mechs, winning a home battle with a Mech alive gives you a Heart of the Machine: a free shop refresh.
  • With 6 Mechs, the reward can instead be a Golden Heart (20% per courier level above 5). It opens a shop of 5 random legendaries, including ones not in this game's rotation, and you get one of them for free.

Wheel of Wonder

A relic. Put one of your pieces into the wheel and you get a choice of 5 copies of it at the same star, each with a different random extra race or class. Pick one for free. In the builder, use “+ trait” on a piece to model this.

Dismiss

You can dismiss one race or class to stop its pieces from appearing in your shop. Other players aren't affected.

  • It costs gold: the more pieces the synergy has in this game, the more it costs (about 8 gold for 2 pieces, up to 27 for 15).
  • Only one synergy can be dismissed at a time. Cancelling is free, but the gold isn't refunded.
  • A dismissed synergy also blocks those pieces from Golden Heart offers and from Pandaren self-copies.
